Battlefield 6's Relaxed Game Mode Sparks Intense Discussions Over AI Players, XP Rewards, and Queue Times

Recently, the game developers introduced a new playlist titled Relaxed Breakthrough. In essence, this option resembles the standard Breakthrough format but includes a few key changes:

  • Every squad includes only 8 real players, with the remaining filled by 32 bots.
  • Actions performed by real players award full XP, while bot actions provide lower rewards.
  • Only two locations are available: Siege of Cairo and Empire State.
  • Elements like Dogtags, accolades, and career stat updates are disabled.

So essentially, this mode lives up to its name: it offers a laid-back version of Breakthrough. At face value, you might think there's nothing wrong, as it gives more options for players looking for different methods to enjoy the title. But, gaming history have taught us anything, it is that you can't please everyone. Which is to say, a lot of BF6 players are upset.

Player Responses: Anger to Praise

"Gamers prefer real players. Avoid making the mistakes of your rivals," states a response to the official announcement. "Truly disappointing concept," says another. Meanwhile, on the Battlefield subreddit, one user notes, "It's unclear where we are headed with this title," and someone else lists everything they believe to be broken in the game: "Resolve glitches, fix drone glitch, correct rocket mechanics, adjust aiming after sprinting, improve hit detection. We do not require this AI-heavy playlist."

On the other hand, for every complaint, some gamers sharing how much they're enjoying the recent addition. "It's enjoyable to practice, human participants prevent it from being a complete grind but it's quite laid-back," says a forum post. "The community doesn't understand that there are gamers who have lives and don't play this title 24/7. Let them strike a balance," adds a different comment. One reply on Twitter clarifies that as they're "a parent gamer with limited time, this is perfect for me," and someone else praises the mode for "avoiding intense competition."

Valid Concerns and Community Input

All that said, there are valid points to complain about the new mode. A few folks have highlighted that it will make wait times even longer for other modes because of the sheer number of playlists currently available. On a similar note, certain regions already encounter mostly bots in the existing playlists. Additionally, it appears somewhat counterintuitive that the mode does not begin without a minimum number of real players, despite it focuses mostly on combat against bots.

Finally, a major grievances is that a previous feature was promised to offer complete rewards, including AI matches, but that was removed when they attempted to eliminate bot farms from the system. Thus Casual Breakthrough seems like the player base meeting them in the middle, as per forum feedback. Another labels this addition as the devs "dropping the ball significantly, I experienced great enjoyment in the initial release, what prompted them to change it?"

Looking Ahead: Adjustments Occur?

If Battlefield Studios has proven anything to date with the latest installment, it's that they're listening and responding to feedback. Assignments that were overly hard got fixed very quickly, as did the required Redsec challenges. It is likely that, if their data shows this recent mode is underperforming to their expectations, they will not hesitate to change it again.
