The acclaimed English actor Dame Helen, previously winner of an Oscar statuette, four Baftas, Globes trophies, five Emmy Awards, along with a Tony Award, is poised to earn an additional esteemed prize to her shelf: the Cecil B DeMille Golden Globe career honor.

Award Event

Dame Helen, 80, who was given a damehood during 2003 and honored as a BAFTA fellow in the year 2014, will pick up the award at an event on 8 January, shortly before the main Golden Globes are held, within an event billed by the Globes as the Golden Eve event.

Additionally featuring the awarding of the Globes’ Carol Burnett honor for small-screen contributions, the recipient of which has yet to be announced. The prior year’s honorees featured Viola Davis and Ted Danson.

“Helen Mirren is a force of nature, with a career is absolutely exceptional,” remarked the Golden Globes president, Helen Hoehne. “Her transcendent performances and devotion to her art continue to inspire generations of artists and fans too. We are deeply honored to award her the DeMille prize.”

Notable Roles

The star gained prominence in the 1970s through significant parts on stage in the West End of London and with the Royal Shakespeare Company and in cinematic works like O Lucky Man!, Caligula and The Long Good Friday.

Back in the 90s, her prominent part in the investigative show Prime Suspect expanded her audience even more. Other important films include Excalibur, The Madness of King George, The Cook, the Thief, His Wife and Her Lover, Gosford Park & Calendar Girls.

She earned an Academy Award for her role as Queen Elizabeth II in the 2006 movie The Queen, a role she revisited in 2013 within The Audience, Peter Morgan’s play concerning the sessions with the Queen and the PM Thatcher, and for which she earned a Tony during 2015.

Current and Forthcoming Appearances

• Later-career movies feature Hitchcock, The Last Station, Woman in Gold, The Debt, Golda and Barbie, where she served as narrator.
• Mirren’s turn in the Netflix adaptation of The Thursday Murder Club has also been praised and awards buzz is growing regarding her role as a dying matriarch in Kate Winslet’s first directing effort, Goodbye June.
• Upcoming, Mirren will be seen as Patricia Highsmith in Anton Corbijn’s drama, Switzerland.

Golden Globe nominations are set to be revealed on the eighth of December, featuring the film by Paul Thomas Anderson One Battle After Another, the movie from Chloé Zhao Hamnet along with Ryan Coogler’s Sinners expected to feature heavily.
