Tehran reports attacking a American military facility in Bahrain, as Iran launched strikes throughout the Middle East in response for a large-scale and continuing assault against it by the United States and Israeli forces.

Huge plumes of black smoke were seen rising from an vicinity in the area of the command center of the American Fifth Fleet in Bahrain's capital, Manama. The extent of any impact is not yet known and the United States has not commented.

Elsewhere across the region, the UAE, Qatar and the State of Kuwait - all home to US military bases - reported they have intercepted missiles in their air space.

In Doha, the Qatari Ministry of Defence said it had successfully engaged several missiles apparently targeting the al-Udeid air base, the biggest US military installation in the Middle East.

Operation "Truthful Promise 4"

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard declared it was targeting American facilities and interests as part of operation "Truthful Promise 4", in response for the offensive on the Islamic Republic initiated by the US and Israel on Saturday morning.

That US-Israeli operation - initiated at around 06:15 GMT - has so far targeted sites linked to the Tehran's leadership, with President Trump calling on the Iranian people to rise up against the government.

In Israel, sirens were heard across the country after the Israel Defense Forces reported it had identified an barrage of missiles from Iran.

The Ministry of Defence of the United Arab Emirates announced that the country has been subjected to a "a blatant attack involving Iranian ballistic missiles".

"UAE air defence systems engaged the missiles with notable success and destroyed a several projectiles," the statement continued.

The statement noted wreckage fell on a residential area in Abu Dhabi, causing some property damage and killing a civilian.

The US Air Force is stationed at the Al Dhafra base, to the south of Abu Dhabi, along with the Emirati Air Force.
