The network's Premier New Show of 2025 Gets a Substantial Renewal for Seasons 2 and 3.
In October of last year, Adult Swim saw the return of its quirky hit, Smiling Friends. But, later that same month, the network unveiled a fresh animated series with a strikingly different feel. Haha, You Clowns emerged as sweet and soothing, evoking a cartoon version of a laid-back talk show. At a time often characterized by cynicism, this show's sincerity found an audience and helped it become a surprise hit.
A Major Commitment
On December 18th, the network confirmed a big renewal: Haha, You Clowns has been greenlit for two more seasons. This offers creator Joe Cappa ample opportunity to expand upon the story of the Campbell family. The series follows three polite teenage brothers whose central trait is their deep love for their single father, with Cappa portraying for all four main characters.
"I am incredibly thankful to the viewers of the show who welcomed the series and shared it with others," said Cappa. "I’m incredibly thrilled that I get to spend more time in the Campbell household for the foreseeable future."
Executive Acclaim
Accompanying the news commendation from Adult Swim president Michael Ouweleen, who called the series as "profoundly sincere and oddly captivating." He thanked the fans who found the show and supported its distinctly quirky style.
"All of you got behind this new show, championed for it on social media, and grew it week over week so we could approve not one, but two more seasons," noted Ouweleen. "As the show says: 'You are strong! You are loved!'"
A Different Kind of Comedy
Upon its debut, Haha, You Clowns was hailed as "a comforting antidote" to more cynical adult animated fare. It offers something deeply soothing about watching this charming family navigate their daily lives.
Previously, creator Joe Cappa stated his desire to evolve comedy past its long-running cynical streak. He attributed this trend to the rise of certain blockbuster franchises.
“There's this level of irony that we can't get ourselves out of,” explained Cappa. “It's like we have to know we’re the smartest person in the room when we're watching stuff. I feel like we've been doing this for a decade, and we must laugh at something different now. The genre needs to change.”
Future Seasons
Given this two-season order, with Haha, You Clowns guaranteed to return, Cappa may well help usher in that change he described. At a minimum, the renewal ensures audiences additional episodes to experience the warm glow of the unique Campbell clan.
The first season's conclusion of Haha, You Clowns will premiere on December 21st. All episodes is ready to watch on HBO Max.
