This Swine Life: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Mayor.
Although not quite at the same level as pardoning Thanksgiving turkeys, but the mayor of Miami-Dade experienced a ceremonial pardon event this week by ritually sparing the life of a pig named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava executed the holiday gesture at the Cuban-style Latin Cafe 2000 in the core of Miami’s iconic Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” declared Levine Cava in a speech with inescapable allusions to the sheer volume of pardons issued from the start of the onset of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating six or seven apples per day,” she went on. “I hope she experiences a long and happy life free from concern.”
The event, which both honors and questions the area's customary feast of feasting on pork during the holidays, was created to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The animal, provided by a Coral Gables firefighter, was given its name from the current slang trend of young people shouting “six-seven” – inspired by a rap song lyric – often without clear purpose. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently declared “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now set to enjoy its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“The pig pardon has become a beloved tradition to open the holiday season,” said the cafe owner, in a decidedly positive message.
“It captures the essence of Miami: happy, diverse, and based in heritage that foster togetherness. Each year, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way only Miami can.”
Guests enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and cafecito as they toasted the pig's pardon.
